🤔 What do air fried radishes taste like?
This air fryer radish recipe is one of the best air fryer recipes around. If you think you are a radish hater because you’ve only had this veggie raw, be sure to try them cooked! Radishes become mild and sweet when cooked, losing their sharp, peppery flavor.
I roasted some potatoes and cauliflower the same day I made these radishes so I could compare them. We thought the radishes would work just as well as the cauliflower for a low-carb potato substitute. Try them and see what do roasted radishes taste like for yourself!
👩🏻🍳 Why You’ll Love This Air Fryer Radish Recipe
My family members are not the biggest fans of raw radishes. When I get a bunch of radishes, I typically add them to my lunch salads. The other people in my household usually avoid them.
One week I got two bunches of radishes in a produce delivery box. I really needed to find a way to incorporate them into a family meal. Two bunches of radishes are a bit much for me to enjoy alone.
Since I’ve been throwing everything in the air fryer lately, I decided to pop the radishes in there as well. And while I was at it, I chose to load them up with goodies like cheddar cheese and bacon.
I wanted to give these air fryer radishes a chance to win the love of my family. Let’s face it, veggies topped with bacon and cheese can be pretty hard to resist.
Spoiler alert: my plan worked and this radish side dish was well accepted! I bet you’ll love it too.
If you’ve been making your veggies more palatable with added sugars like honey and maple syrup, now’s a great time to try something new. May I recommend this no added sugar air fry radish recipe? This fast and easy recipe is going to change your perception of the radish as a boring salad vegetable!
⭐ Are radishes keto?
Yes, radishes are a good fit for keto and low carb diets. Per Cronometer, one cup of sliced raw radishes is only 3 grams of net carbs. Radishes are also a naturally gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, and low calorie food.
Just think of all the keto radish recipes in the air fryer you could make! Turn strips of crispy air fried radishes into radish fries (AKA radish chips), make air fryer radish hash browns... You get the idea!
Are radishes healthier than potatoes?
Both radishes and potatoes are nutritious vegetables, and either veggie can play a role in an overall healthy diet pattern. The answer to which one is healthier depends on your dietary needs and preferences and what you’re looking for. Radishes are much lower in carbohydrates and calories than potatoes, and are a better fit for low carb diets.
🔥 Air Fryer Radishes (Keto Ingredients)
Here’s what you need to make radishes in the air fryer:
- Red radishes
- Olive oil (or your favorite cooking oil)
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Dried parsley
- Salt and black pepper
- Cooking oil spray
Specific quantities of ingredients are located in the recipe card at the bottom of the post!
You can use red radishes or rainbow radishes here. If you use daikon radishes, you will need to peel them and chop them small.
Make sure to use a non-aerosol cooking spray when air frying. Aerosol cooking sprays may damage the finish on some air fryer baskets or trays.
I developed this recipe using a 10-Quart Kalorik Digital Air Fryer Oven. The Ninja Foodi, Philips, Nuwave, Pampered Chef, Actifry, Instant Pot Vortex, Cosori, Breville, and other air fryers can also be used to air fry radishes. You may need to make slight adjustments to the cooking time depending on the air fryer you use.
Always check the food early the first time you try a new air fryer recipe. That way you won’t accidentally burn your food!
🥓 Radish Seasonings and Toppings
This keto radish air fryer recipe is loaded up with some of my favorite toppings:
- Cooked and crumbled bacon
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Sour cream
- Sliced scallions
- Chopped chives
If you’re making this air fryer radish dish keto-friendly, you’re going to want a bacon with no added sugar. Lately I’ve been using Nature’s Rancher No Sugar Added Bacon, and I LOVE it. It’s only 30 calories per cooked slice, so a little crumble shouldn’t impede fat loss goals.
The main reason I’m loving this bacon, however, is that it browns and crisps perfectly each time. Without the sugars, it doesn’t burn as quickly as other bacon options.
You don’t have to top or season your radishes the way I do. Here are some other ideas for flavoring radishes made in the air fryer:
- Onion powder
- Ranch dressing mix
- Chili powder
- Taco seasoning
- Cajun spice
- Crushed red pepper flakes
- Lemon juice
- Lemon zest
- Parmesan cheese
🔪 How do you make roasted radishes in the air fryer?
First let’s cover how to prepare radishes. Wash dirt away with cool water and trim both ends of each radish. There’s no need to peel them; save the radish greens to make keto pesto.
Cut each radish in half or quarters, depending on its size. Put the radishes in a bowl, and drizzle with oil, stirring to coat. Sprinkle on the garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, salt, and pepper, and stir again.
Mist an air fryer baking tray or air fryer basket with cooking spray. Spread the prepared radishes on the tray in a single layer. If you have an air fryer oven, place the tray in the top rack position.
⏲️ Keto Radishes Air Fryer Time and Temp
How long to air fry radishes? What's the air fryer radish temperature? Air fry radishes for a total of 20 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200C). Flip the radishes and spray with more oil halfway through cooking time.
After air frying, you can load the radishes with crumbled bacon, cheese, sour cream, scallions, and chives. Then all that’s left for you to do is dig in! ️
🌡️ How to Reheat Leftovers
Leftover cooked radishes will last up to 3-4 days in a covered container in the fridge. Reheat radishes in the microwave for one minute on high in a microwave-safe container. Top the radishes after reheating.
You can freeze both cooked and raw radishes, though the texture may change when thawed. For the best quality, blanch raw radishes before freezing.
📋Carbs in Radishes
Do radishes have carbs? Yes, but not much. One serving of air fryer radishes has 241 calories, 5.8 grams net carbs, and 9.1 grams protein. This is for half the recipe listed below, and includes the radish toppings.
💭 Expert Tips from a Dietitian
This is a level 3 recipe (weight maintenance and active lifestyles). This tasty side dish provides over 200 calories for half the recipe. You can probably guess what I will say here but skip the loaded toppings for level 1. These air fried radishes are lightly seasoned and make a perfectly respectable side without the bacon, cheese, and so on.
Are radishes good for weight loss? Radishes are a low calorie and high-volume food that can help volume eaters stay full on fewer calories. Radishes are an excellent addition to meals that promote weight loss (if cooked with little or no oil and sugar).
Are radishes healthier cooked or raw? Both cooked and raw radishes are healthy, and I include both in my diet. Radishes do lose certain nutrients (particularly vitamin C) with cooking, though that doesn’t mean you should skip cooked vegetables.
There are lots of health claims about radishes online, such as that they are a super food and anti-inflammatory. Some claims are bogus while others are rooted in truth. For example, radishes contain potassium, a mineral that does help to lower high blood pressure.
I don’t recommend making air fryer radishes without oil. Using a small amount of oil helps the edges of the radishes get browned and crispy. Without the oil, the radishes get a bit dried out during cooking.
To make air fryer radish chips, cut the radishes thin and coat with oil. Air fry at 375F (190C), checking them and flipping them every 5 minutes until crisped to your liking.
