🍤 How to Make Air Fryer Teriyaki Shrimp

The only ingredients you need to make my shrimp with teriyaki sauce are:

  • 12 ounces peeled frozen large shrimp (340g, 31-40 count per pound)
  • 1/3 cup thick teriyaki sauce (or a homemade teriyaki sauce substitute
  • Cooking oil spray (olive oil spray or another type)
  • Sliced scallions, crushed red pepper flakes, sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

The size of the shrimp will impact the air frying time. I prefer large shrimp for this recipe because they cook nicely in the air fryer without drying out. If you want to make this recipe with larger shrimp, check out my frozen jumbo shrimp in the air fryer

I’m using a bottle of storebought teriyaki sauce for this recipe. I also tested this recipe with a batch of my low calorie teriyaki sauce, and it turned out great. It uses low sodium soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, sesame oil, and ginger.

You can air fry raw shrimp in the Actifry, Ninja Foodi, Philips, Pampered Chef, Cuisinart, Nuwave, Instant Vortex, Cosori, Power Air Fryer, etc. However, if your air fryer has a smaller air fryer basket than mine, you may have to cook the shrimp in batches.

Here are the step-by-step directions for how to air fry shrimp:

Place frozen shrimp in the air fryer basket and spritz with cooking spray. Air fry for 5-9 minutes at 400F (200C) until the shrimp reaches a minimum safe internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit (63C) using a meat thermometer.

While the shrimp cooks, warm the teriyaki sauce on the stovetop or in the microwave. If the sauce is thin, whisk in a little cornstarch to thicken.

After the shrimp is done cooking, gently mix it with the sauce. Garnish with lots of green onions, red pepper flakes, and sesame seeds if desired.

How to Store Teriyaki Shrimp

Store leftovers for up to 1-2 days in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat the shrimp in the microwave so you don’t mess up your air fryer with the sticky sauce.

How to Serve Teriyaki Shrimp

This saucy shrimp is best served over rice or cauliflower rice. Use brown rice for fiber and a hearty flavor. I’d also add a vegetable on the side, such as broccoli, snow peas, asparagus, or a salad.

💭 Expert Tips from Dietitian Summer Yule

This is a level 1 recipe (may help support fat loss). Shrimp is a healthy lean protein that is low carb and low in calories. The one negative of this recipe is that it may be high in sodium due to the teriyaki sauce. If you need a low sodium option, there are salt free teriyaki sauces available.
