What does Burger King Fish Sandwich look like?
Below is a photo of the fish sandwich from Burger King. It’s not a bad looking fish sandwich, though the environmentally friendly paper wrapping allowed it to be crushed a bit easier than the old school styrofoam boxes would.
The fish in this sandwich is super crispy, with a generous amount of super sweet mayo. They went light on the pickles and lettuce. Overall, my family enjoyed the Burger King Big Fish sandwich.
Burger King Fish Sandwich
Here’s how to make a copycat Burger King fish sandwich:
- Cook the frozen fish patties according to the package directions. Oven: Gorton’s fish sandwich burgers get cooked for 16-18 minutes in a metal pan at 425F (218C), flipping after 10 minutes. Add an additional 3 minutes to the cooking time for extra crunch. Air fryer: Cook at 400F (200C) for 9-13 minutes. The packaging advises to cook the fish to a minimum internal temp of 165F (74C), checking with a meat thermometer.
- Toast the burger buns. Brioche buns are very soft and may get soggy from the mayo if not toasted. Oven: Lightly spread cut sides of buns with butter. Broil in oven for a couple of minutes (cut sides up) until golden brown. Air fryer: Place buns in a single layer in air fryer, cut sides up. Air fry for 2-3 minutes at 400F (200C).
- Assemble the fish sandwiches. Go heavy on the tartar sauce as Burger King does (about 2 tablespoons per sandwich). Layer on the cooked fish burger, lettuce, and a few pickle slices. Enjoy!
These turn out very similar to the original, perhaps a bit better. The BK version tastes more fried, with that fast food oil aftertaste. I liked how my version has more fish flavor with less oil.
You need to make sure to get the hamburger buns good and toasty so they don’t get soggy. If you’re still having issues with soggy sandwiches, try spreading the buns with more butter prior to toasting.

Is Burger King fish sandwich halal?
In the USA, Canada, and UK, Burger King uses the same oil to fry halal and haram foods. Thus, much of the food at Burger King in America, including the fish sandwich, is not halal. In Muslim countries with Burger Kings, you will find halal compatible options.
Is Burger King fish sandwich dairy free?
The recipe for the Burger King fish sandwich varies by country, so check your country’s BK website for the most accurate info. In the US, the BK fish sandwich may have cross-contact with dairy containing foods in the fryer. Thus, there’s no guarantee that it’s 100% dairy free.
Burger King Fish Sandwich vs McDonald’s- what’s the difference?
The McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish includes American cheese and no lettuce, whereas the BK Big Fish has lettuce but no cheese. Another difference is that the McDonald’s fish sandwich has a steamed bun, while Burger King uses a toasted bun.
In terms of taste, the McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish was always one of my favorite McDonald’s offerings. I was surprised I like the Burger King Big Fish better. The fish in the BK sandwich was crispier and the tartar sauce was sweeter, leading to a better texture and flavor experience than you get with the McDonald’s sandwich.
As a side note, my family thinks Burger King fries are better than McD’s fries too. The Burger King sandwich is about 150 calories more than the McDonald’s sandwich, but IMVHO these are calories well-spent.
Which fast food fish sandwich is the healthiest?
McDonald’s fish sandwich is much lower in sodium and calories than Burger King’s version. (That said, we felt the BK sandwich wins on taste, which is also an important factor in making a food decision.)
What is the healthiest item on the Burger King menu?
What’s “healthiest” always depends on what your personal needs and preferences are. There are no salads at Burger King in the US; almost all the foods are fried, burgers, and/or high in added sugar. I might choose a couple of bunless burger patties with Whopper veggies, plus a side of applesauce for a small and nutritious meal.
For drinks at Burger King, I’d opt for milk, water, or coffee. I wish more fast food chains in the US would offer salads, but they don’t seem to sell well.

💭 Expert Tips from Dietitian Summer Yule
This is a level 3 recipe (weight maintenance and active lifestyles). Is BK fish healthy? Though seafood is a heart-healthy protein, the fried fish fillets and mayo add a lot of fat and calories to this nutritious food. You can get a regular hamburger at Burger King for 250 calories, less than half the calories of the Big Fish. This is because the hamburger is much lower in carbs and fat than the fish sandwich. The Burger King fish sandwich provides 48% calories from fat and 39% calories from carbs. This means you’re getting only 13% calories from protein. Most of us add fries and soda to the meal, adding even more fat and carbs. To make a more balanced meal, I’d try to add more protein and fiber. For example, add a glass of milk and side salad to your meal instead of the usual fries. This should help make the meal feel more filling, and provide some vitamins and minerals that would be lacking here otherwise. Nutrition information is for one copycat Burger King Fish sandwich. Nutrition info will vary depending on the buns, mayo, and fish patty you use.
