Get the scoop on Costco muffins (AKA Kirkland Signature muffins) in this Costco muffin review! Learn which is the best of the Costco muffin flavors (IMO), get the Costco muffin price, nutrition information, and more. If you’ve ever wondered if Costco muffins freeze well, or how long they last, I’ve got the answers here. Kirkland muffins are always a crowd-pleaser for breakfast, brunch, or a snack.

    costco blueberry muffins

Why are Costco muffins so good? Costco muffins are soft, super moist, and cake-like in sweetness and texture. This is because they’re packed with white flour, sugar, and oil, just like a cupcake or pastry.

I mean, you can essentially think of a Costco muffin as a piece of cake without frosting. Delicious, delicious cake.

The muffins are also HUGE. If you have a Costco membership, the table of muffins in the Costco bakery is hard to miss. And if you want the muffins, you need to go to your local Costco, as they’re not sold on the Costco website.

    Do you like free things?

Get new recipe ideas biweekly, our 5-Day Air Fryer Quick Start Guide, and more totally FREE exclusive goodies!

(Well, the Costco Business site appears to sell them individually wrapped, but not their regular site. Alternatively, you may be able to get them delivered with Instacart, if you don’t mind paying an extra fee.)

Costco muffins are sold in 6 packs, and you must buy Costco muffins 2 for 1. This means you’re committing to 12 big muffins every time you make a purchase. Hope you’re feeding a hungry crowd!

    costco corn muffins

There’s only one flavor per pack, so you can get two flavors per purchase. It would be great if they sold mixed flavor packs, because I always want to try them all!

    ➕ Costco Muffin Flavors

What flavor muffins does Costco make? Costco muffin flavors may vary by season and store location. Here are some muffin flavors Costco may have:

    • Blueberry Muffins*
    • Double Chocolate Muffins
    • Corn Muffins*
    • Pumpkin Streusel Muffins*
    • Chocolate Chip Muffins
    • Almond Poppy Muffins
    • Banana Chocolate Chunks Muffins
    • Vanilla Chocolate Chunk Muffins
    • Coffee Cake Muffins
    • Guava Cream Cheese Muffins
    • Raspberry Lemon Muffins
    • Apple Crumb Muffins

*These are the muffins Costco has now, at my local store. You may find other Costco muffin flavors for 2022, depending on when and where you visit.

Costco pumpkin muffins are the best Costco muffins, IMHO. Make sure to pick up a package if you’re at a Costco during pumpkin spice season.

    muffins from costco

I’ve heard reports that the double chocolate Costco muffins tend to be a little dry. Also, Costco’s apple muffins may be discontinued. I know that’s a bummer among many Costco shoppers, because I've heard they’re a fan favorite.

The blueberry Costco muffins are usually available year-round. One of the Costco chocolate muffins are usually there as well. They seem to have sold out on my last store visit.

    blueberry muffins costco

You can also (typically) get veggie muffins at Costco, but they’re in the frozen section instead of the bakery. The Garden Lites Veggies Made Great muffins at Costco contain hidden veggies. They come in tasty flavors like blueberry oat muffins and cranberry orange muffins.

    ⭐ Costco Muffins Calories

The calories in a Costco muffin and other Costco bakery items are not on the packaging and are difficult to source. Luckily, I found information on the calories in Costco muffins on Reddit here.

Costco lists calories per half muffin. I did the math, so here are the calories per muffin at Costco:

    • Costco Blueberry Muffin Calories: 580
    • Double Chocolate Muffin: 660 calories
    • Corn Muffin: 520 calories
    • Almond Poppyseed Muffins: 640 calories
    • Apple Crumb Muffin: 640 calories
    • Coffeecake Muffin: 660 calories
    • Vanilla Chocolate Chunk Muffin: 640 calories
    • Guava Cream Cheese Muffin: 640 calories

The calories in Costco blueberry muffin and Costco corn muffin are lowest, at 580 and 520 calories, respectively. The double chocolate muffin and coffeecake muffin are the highest calorie muffins at Costco. Please note that recipes do change from time to time; contact your local Costco for the most up-to-date calorie info.

Why are Costco muffins so high in calories?

Costco muffins are so high calorie because they are HUGE. Each Costco muffin weighs approximately 5.8 ounces (164g). This is twice the size of a big grocery store muffin, and perhaps 3-4 times the size of a homemade muffin!

    📋 Costco Muffins Nutrition

    Do Costco muffins have dairy?

Are Costco muffins dairy free? No, Costco muffins are not dairy free. Costco muffins contain milk ingredients and are processed on equipment that processes other foods with dairy.

    Do Costco muffins have egg?

Yes, Costco muffins contain eggs. Do not buy Costco muffins if you’re looking for a muffin that is egg free.

    Are Costco muffins vegan?

Since Costco muffins from the bakery contain both egg and dairy, they are definitely not vegan.

    Do Costco muffins have nuts?

Costco bakery muffins are processed on equipment that also processes tree nuts and peanuts. Thus, you should steer clear of Costco muffins if you have a severe nut allergy. There is warning on the label that consumers with food allergies should read the ingredient statement carefully.

Some of the flavors of Costco muffins may contain nuts.

    Are Costco muffins halal?

Many types of Costco muffins contain “natural flavor,” which may or may not include extracts containing alcohol. Since alcohol is not halal, I would avoid Costco muffins if you want to be safe.

    Are Costco muffins kosher?

None of the Costco bakery muffins I bought had the kosher mark. According to this discussion, some Costco bakeries offer many kosher items and others don’t. Check your local Costco if you follow a kosher diet.

If you don’t have a local Costco and want Costco muffin recipes, try this. With this Costco muffin copycat recipe, you don’t have to miss out on the fun.

    🤔 Costco Muffins Price

At the time of writing, Costco muffins cost $8.99 for two 6-muffin packages, or about 75 cents per muffin. Each Costco muffin package weighs 35 ounces (992 grams). This is the 2022 Costco muffins price; prices are subject to change and may vary by location.

How much are Costco muffins Canada?

According to a Canadian friend, Costco muffins cost $7.99 per 2 packs in Canada. This works out to about $0.67 per Costco muffin.

    ❓ Costco Muffin Ingredients

What's in the muffins at Costco? Here is the ingredients list for Costco blueberry muffins:

    • Wheat flour
    • Sugar
    • Eggs
    • Blueberries
    • Soybean or Canola Oil
    • Water
    • Enriched flour (wheat flour, malted barley flour, niacin, iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid)
    • Contains 2% of less of the following: modified corn starch, palm oil, whey, emulsifier blend, wheat gluten, leavening, egg whites, salt, sodium stearoyl lactylate, natural and artificial flavors, xanthan gum

And here are the ingredients for Costco pumpkin streusel muffins:

    • Wheat flour
    • Sugar
    • Eggs
    • Soybean or Canola Oil
    • Pumpkin
    • Enriched flour (wheat flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid)
    • Water
    • Butter
    • Contains 2% of less of the following: enriched wheat flour, spices, modified corn starch, palm oil, whey, emulsifier blend, wheat gluten, leavening, egg whites, salt, sodium stearoyl lactylate, natural and artificial flavors, xanthan gum
    • Cinnamon sugar (dextrose, corn starch, palm oil, cinnamon, titanium dioxide for color, natural and artificial flavor, egg whites, wheat flour, whey, soy flour)
    muffin costco

You can see these recipes start out simple (flour, sugar, eggs, oil, blueberries or pumpkin), but then things change. Costco muffins from the bakery are an ultra-processed food. They contain a lot of highly processed ingredients we generally wouldn’t use in our home baking.

🥶 Do Costco muffins freeze well?

Can you freeze muffins from Costco? Yes, you can! Wrap Costco muffins individually in plastic wrap and put in a freezer bag with the air pressed out before freezing.

After freezing, you can defrost the muffins by leaving in the refrigerator for 24-48 hours. Another way to thaw muffins is to remove all the wrapping and the muffin liner, and microwave. You can defrost muffins in the microwave in 10-30 seconds on high.

🌡 How long do Costco muffins last?

Costco muffins have a “sell-by” date, but this is not the date you must use the muffins by. According to foodsafety.gov, commercial muffins can be kept up to 3-7 days in the pantry, or 7-10 days in the fridge. If you freeze the muffins after purchase, you can keep them in the freezer for up to 6 months.

Do you have to refrigerate Costco muffins?

Nope! Costco keeps their bakery muffins at room temperature, and you can too. However, if you want them to last 3-4 days longer, keep Costco muffins in the fridge.

💭 Expert Tips from a Dietitian

This is a level 3 recipe (weight maintenance and active lifestyles). Are Costco muffins healthy? Costco muffins are high calorie, high fat, high sugar, and loaded with white flour. They’re a highly processed food that’s designed to taste good, are oversized, and are easy to overeat.

    costco muffin

As a result of the processing, I think you’ll find Costco muffins last a bit longer than homemade muffins. That’s a good thing, because unless you have a large family, it’s unlikely you’ll finish them all in a day or two.

So, in short, if you’re wondering “Are Costco muffins good for you?” In most cases, not really. That said, they’re an occasional treat that makes me happy. Also, they can help pack in some extra calories if you’re sick and having trouble eating enough.

If you’re bringing these muffins to a party or potluck, I highly recommend cutting them into ¼s or ½s. This will help prevent a lot of wasted food, particularly if you’re feeding kiddos. Like everything at Costco, these muffins are really huge!

Costco lists the serving size as ½ a muffin on the nutrition facts panel, but they don’t include this info on the package. I recommend cutting the muffins in half, and adding some other foods to your plate if you’re enjoying these as part of a meal. Some yogurt and cut fruit will help give you a more balanced breakfast.

    FAQs

Costco vs Sam's Club Muffins- what's the difference?

Both Costco and Sam’s Club sell jumbo muffins that are high calorie and taste like cake. Some say Costco’s muffins seem more premium and the flavors are better. Of course, this is entirely subjective, and opinions vary.

    Does Costco sell mini muffins?

The Costco mini muffins offerings vary by store. Look for The Worthy Crumb mini muffins in blueberry or chocolate chip. Other options may include Entenmann’s little bites muffins, and Bimbo mini mantecadas vanilla muffins.

How much are 6 muffins at Costco?

Many Costcos will not sell you only one package of 6 muffins. You must buy two packs of muffins at a time, or 12 muffins. They currently cost $8.99 in US stores.

    Have Costco muffins gotten smaller?

There was an internet rumor going around that Costco muffins are smaller than they used to be. This does not appear to be true. Honestly, at 5.5-5.8 oz each, these are some of the largest store muffins I have ever seen. I can’t imagine how they could make them much bigger!

    Where are Costco Muffins made?

Costco employees report that the muffins come in a mix, and are baked fresh in the warehouse. Ask your local Costco if you’d like additional details about their bakery.
