What’s the best sauce for lobster ravioli? It’s this creamy lobster ravioli sauce without cream! When it comes to sauces for lobster ravioli, your options are endless. Garlic butter, lemon butter, alfredo, and cream sauce for lobster ravioli are all delicious, but this white sauce for lobster ravioli is the best of the bunch. Learn why and get my lobster ravioli sauce recipe right here!
I’ve done it, folks. I’ve found the best sauce with lobster ravioli, and I’m going to share it today.
Sauces for lobster ravioli are often based in butter or heavy cream, two high calorie ingredients that are high in saturated fat. I’ve got a creamy sauce for lobster ravioli that’s just as delicious as garlic butter or cream, but with less fat and calories.
The secret to this sauce for seafood ravioli is to thicken a base of milk and broth with a roux. (A roux is a mixture of flour and fat.) This allows us to make a sauce as thick as lobster ravioli cream sauce, but with no cream. I know you’re going to love how delicious it is, even if you don’t want a healthy (or healthier) option.
This easy sauce for lobster ravioli is simple enough for weeknights but fancy enough for date night or other special occasions. And unlike at certain restaurants, this lobster sauce for ravioli can stay on your home menu all year long. (Don’t you wish the Olive Garden lobster ravioli sauce wasn’t a seasonal item? I do!)

You can use storebought lobster ravioli or homemade lobster ravioli for this recipe. If minimal prep time is your priority, storebought is the way to go. (Homemade pasta dough can take quite a bit of effort!)
I buy lobster ravioli from Trader Joe’s, or use Costco lobster ravioli. These are fresh pasta options, but frozen pasta can also be used.
This lobster ravioli sauce has cooked lobster in it. To make lobster ravioli without lobster, you can use shrimp or chopped crab sticks instead. Either option will likely save you money compared to using lobster.
One benefit of using lobster here is that you can make seafood stock using lobster shells. This will add an extra bit of lobster flavor to your recipe when used in place of the chicken broth. Try to use a stock or broth with no added salt for the best results.
I feel the garlic, Old Bay, and lemon zest really combine to make the flavors pop here. I don’t recommend skipping any of them in this recipe for the best taste experience.
The kitchen equipment you need includes a knife, two pots, and a colander or slotted spoon to drain the pasta. Use one pot to cook the ravioli, and the other pot to make the sauce.
🍝 How to Make Lobster Ravioli Sauce
Here are step-by-step instructions for making lobster ravioli sauce:
- Cook and drain the lobster ravioli in a large pot of salted water according to the package directions while you prepare the lobster ravioli sauce. You want the ravioli hot and ready to add to the sauce later.
- Chop the shallots and mince the garlic. Saute the shallots and garlic in the olive oil over medium heat for 5-10 minutes. The shallots should become translucent without browning.
- Add the flour, basil, Old Bay, parsley, and thyme to the pot and stir. Then slowly add the broth and then the milk, whisking to avoid lumps. The sauce should thicken quickly (with a total cooking time of 5 minutes or less) over the heat.
- Quickly stir in the grated Parm to melt. Add black pepper, and remove the pot from the heat. You shouldn’t need to add salt, as Old Bay seasoning has some in it already.
- Stir in the lemon zest, cooked lobster ravioli, and cooked chopped lobster. Serve the sauced lobster ravioli with fresh basil garnish and a squeeze of lemon juice.
🌡 Storing Lobster Ravioli Leftovers
Though not ideal, you can store lobster ravioli leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1-2 days. I don’t recommend freezing this lobster ravioli recipe, as the ravioli may get mushy in the sauce when thawed.
To reheat ravioli in lobster sauce, put a serving in a microwave-safe bowl and cover with a paper towel. Microwave on high for 1-2 minutes, until warmed through.
🤔 What to Serve with Lobster Ravioli
What goes well with lobster ravioli? The serving size of ravioli is rather small, so I recommend beefing up your meal with a salad or other sides. Here are some side dishes that go with lobster ravioli:
- Vegan Spinach Salad
- Air Fryer Garlic Bread
- Roasted Asparagus
- Air Fryer Frozen Vegetables

FAQs
What sauce goes well with lobster?
One of my favorite food experiences is dunking chunks of warm lobster into lemon butter sauce. It’s the best! Garlic butter is another great option for dipping lobster.
Where to buy lobster ravioli?
In the US, you can buy lobster ravioli at Trader Joe’s and seasonally at Costco. Item availability may vary by location, and you may find lobster ravioli at other stores (such as Whole Foods).
How do you cook Costco lobster ravioli (Rana brand)?
You can cook fresh Rana Maine lobster ravioli by boiling on the stovetop for 4 minutes. Lobster ravioli should reach a minimum safe internal temp of 165F (74C).
How long should I boil frozen lobster ravioli?
To cook frozen lobster ravioli, bring a large pot of water to boil on the stove. Add the frozen lobster ravioli to the pot, and cook for 8-12 minutes. Check the ravioli with a meat thermometer to ensure it reached 165F (74C).
How many raviolis in one serving?
The number of ravioli per serving depends on the size of the ravioli you’re using, as well as the appetite of the eater. In general, there are 4-8 ravioli per serving. The lobster ravioli serving size is generally listed as one cup on packaging.
Why are ravioli portions so small?
Many Americans are surprised by the small portion sizes of white flour foods, such as ravioli. These foods are energy-dense, meaning they pack a lot of calories into a small portion. One of the reasons low carb diets work for some is that they eliminate a lot of calorie dense foods.
Can you cook frozen ravioli directly in sauce?
I don’t recommend cooking frozen ravioli directly in this lobster ravioli sauce. You can simmer frozen ravioli in sauce in some other recipes.

💭 Expert Tips from Dietitian Summer Yule
This is a level 3 recipe (weight maintenance and active lifestyles). This lobster ravioli sauce is creamy and lemony, with a hint of Old Bay. It manages to be much lower in saturated fat than butter or cream-based sauces, and is lower calorie too. That said, I still don’t recommend this creamy ravioli dish as a great choice for weight loss. After adding the lobster ravioli to the sauce, you’ve got a relatively high fat/high carb combo with minimal fiber. Foods such as ravioli that contain a lot of white flour tend not to be very filling relative to the calories they provide. This can make maintaining the calorie deficit needed to lose weight more of a challenge. Meals that help us feel full on fewer calories (generally packed with lean protein, fruits, and veggies) tend to be better choices for weight loss. If you’d like to enjoy some lobster ravioli and sauce on your weight loss plan, consider adding non-starchy veggies to your plate. A big garden salad with low oil dressing can help bulk up the meal, and may help volume eaters feel more satisfied. The salad will also provide more fiber, and add phytonutrients not present in the ravioli. Nutrition information is for one serving of the lobster ravioli sauce without the lobster ravioli. The precise nutrition info for your meal will depend on the brand of lobster ravioli you use. My lobster ravioli added about 400 calories per serving.

Made this last night for vday dinner. My boyfriend loved it! I wasn’t too fond of the lemon taste in it though, but it might have been bc i added too much. I am definitely going to try this recipe again…..with less zest.
Hi Lis, So happy your boyfriend liked the meal! The recipe should definitely still work well with less zest if you’re not digging the lemon. Appreciate the feedback, and thank you for the rating 🙂
