⭐ Benefits of Making Fried Eggs in Air Fryer
Why make a fried egg in the air fryer? Here are some reasons to try this air fryer recipe:
- Easy clean up: Eggs will sometimes stick even to non-stick skillets, leading to an annoying clean up. Air frying fried eggs is easier because there’s less of a chance of the eggs sticking.
- Protein: Large eggs have 6 grams of protein each. It’s a lot relative to the calories they provide. Egg whites are particularly protein-dense, but egg yolks contain most of the egg’s vitamins and minerals.
- Perfect first cooking project: If you have kids that are new to air frying and cooking eggs, this recipe is a great place to start. Using an air fryer tends to be less intimidating than using the stovetop. Additionally, this hands-off method of frying eggs ensures a greater chance of cooking success.
- Fast: If you have an air fryer, you can have fried eggs in only 3-5 minutes. You don’t need to heat a pan or preheat the air fryer first.
- Simple: Fried eggs are a simple whole food that are Paleo and Whole30 compliant. You’re getting a solid source of nutrition packed in its natural food matrix (what some call “clean eating” food).
- Delicious: Air fried eggs are a tasty entrée for family breakfast. All ages tend to think eggs are an excellent choice!
🥘 Air Fryer Fried Eggs Ingredients
What do you need to make air fried eggs? All you need are eggs and cooking spray. So easy!
Use a non-aerosol cooking oil spray. Some people report that aerosol cooking sprays damaged their air fryer. For oil type, I tend to use avocado oil spray, but olive oil, canola oil, or coconut oil also works.
The only pieces of kitchen equipment you need for this recipe are an air fryer and 5-inch diameter non-stick pie tins. With mini pie pans, there’s no need for foil, parchment paper, or something else to hold the eggs.
Most of my air fryer recipes were developed in a 10-Quart Kalorik Digital Air Fryer Oven.
The Ninja Foodi, Philips, Nuwave, Pampered Chef, Actifry, Instant Pot Vortex, Cosori, Breville, and other air fryers can cook eggs as well. However, keep in mind that cooking times can vary between air fryer brands.
Always keep a close eye on the food whenever you try a new recipe. That’s the best way to ensure you’ll have perfect results every time.
🔪 How to Make Air Fryer Fried Eggs
You can make one or two eggs at a time, depending on how many pans fit on one rack of the air fryer. Spray the pie tin(s) that you’ll be cooking the eggs in. Crack an egg in each pan (one per pan).
️⏲️ Air Fryer Time and Temperature
How long to cook fried eggs in the air fryer? What temperature to air fry fried eggs? Air fry eggs for 3-5 minutes at 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190C). If you have an air fryer oven, use the top rack position.
Make sure the egg white is firm and solid. Five minutes got me a fried egg with a nice runny egg yolk. Air fry your eggs longer for firm yolks.
I’m having you check the eggs after 3 minutes since some air fryers cook faster than others. After cooking, sprinkle with a little salt and pepper (if desired), and remove the egg from the pan with a spatula.
️🌡️ Leftovers
Fried eggs really don’t reheat or freeze well. Luckily, it’s easy to just make what you need!

💭 Expert Tips from a Dietitian
This is a level 1 recipe (may help support fat loss). Eggs are one of my favorite breakfast options for weight watchers and general weight loss. They are a protein dense food that are only 70 calories each. Common American weekday breakfasts (cereals, muffins, waffles, pastries, etc.) tend to be high in calories relative to their protein and volume. For a morning meal with staying power, eggs (plus fruits or veggies and maybe some dairy) are a great choice. If you tend to be a light eater in the morning, two eggs with one cup of berries is only around 200 calories. It’s a healthy snack, rich in an assortment of beneficial nutrients. Make it more substantial meal by adding a glass of milk, toast, and a sausage patty or bacon. Eggs provide 13 essential vitamins and minerals. This includes choline, selenium, riboflavin, phosphorus, vitamin B12, and vitamin A. Most of the nutrition in the eggs in found in the yolk, so don’t be afraid to enjoy whole eggs! Note: If you’re in a group that's at higher risk of foodborne illness, I recommend cooking your egg yolks until firm. Simply air fry eggs longer until the yolk is no longer runny. Nutrition information is for one large egg.

Pamela J. says
Hi Summer, Was given air fryer for Christmas and so been trying out this and that. This morning after finding your recipe I decided to give the eggs a go in. I had no metal pie tins so used 2 x ramekins instead.
7 mins, Temp 195 C. Checked at 5 mins and the yolks had started to harden in 1/4 of the yolk, but the whites still runny. Forked the yolk into the whites and moved around a little to allow more even of cooking. Added another 2 mins and checked again at the 1 min mark. Hard to lift out of the ramekins although oiled well and were just a little soft on the bottom . Eggs were Ok... but not how I would prefer them to look when presented for breakfast on toast. I will buy some non stick pie dishes for the next time. I think a shallower dish would be better too than the deeper ramekins I used. (90mm dia x 50mm deep). I will update... Hi Pamela, thank you for all the detailed info! Little ramekins work really well for air fryer poached eggs: https://summeryule.com/poached-eggs-air-fryer/ that might be one to try until your mini pie tins arrive. (I think the poached eggs look pretty good on toast too 🙂 ) Something I might work on in the coming year is an air fryer cookbook, and I want to test the recipes in a few air fryers that cook differently to try and ensure as much success as possible, so thank you for letting me know the air fryer you used 🙂 Summer
Dave says
Fried eggs are universal and not just american.
For this reason I will not use this site
Summer Yule says
Hi Dave, of course eggs are eaten globally! Since air frying eggs is a non-traditional cooking method and this recipe came straight from my US kitchen, I've marked it as American. Otherwise the international chefs will comment I'm doing their eggs wrong 😉
Anyhow, I hope you're having a lovely weekend and enjoying your breakfast eggs over there in the UK. Spreading some joy and positivity out into the world is one of the simplest and most impactful things we can do to make the world better for all, and it's definitely needed online <3
George says
Hi!
One egg has 0.6 g of net carbs and zero fiber.
George
Summer Yule says
Thanks, George! I often don't include the number when it's <1g in the recipe card, because I noticed it was changing itself to a negative number after publishing. Hopefully I got them all 🙂 Summer
Jackie says
This came out PERFECTLY, and will definitely save me time in the morning!! This tastes like a sou vide egg and would be great for any breakfast or breakfast sandwich.
Summer Yule says
Hi Jackie, thank you so much for the feedback! I love to hear that! 😀
Amanda says
Absolutely amazing!!!! Turned out perfect
Summer Yule says
So happy you liked it! Thank you for the feedback 😀
Marilyn Haynes says
I’m wondering if there is an implement that could be put over the sausage to keep the grease from popping all over my Air Fryer/ toaster oven? Let me know please let me know if you know of one.
Grammy Haynes
Thank you!
Summer Yule says
Hi Grammy Haynes, that's a great question! You can use foil to loosely cover the sausages but they won't brown as well and they'll take longer to cook. It might work to start them without the foil, then cover them towards the end if they're making a mess on you. Thank you for visiting!
Rebeca says
Honestly I was extremely skeptical but had bo options since the gas was out but they were perfect. Thank you
Summer Yule says
Hi Rebeca, Love to hear that! Hope your gas gets fixed soon 🙂
Leslie says
These eggs were absolutely perfect! I received an air fryer for Christmas and am just starting to try recipes. I was able to make two sunny side-up eggs using a small Weber grill drip pan, which I just popped in the dishwasher afterward. Looking forward to trying all your recipes!
Summer Yule says
Hi Leslie, that is wonderful to hear! I'm so glad you're enjoying your new air fryer, and happy you found me! 😀
Susan says
They tasted great!
Summer Yule says
So happy to hear that! 😀
Rene says
My fryer goes up by 10 degrees iimplements should I use 360 for 6 minutes? Thank you.
Summer Yule says
Hi Rene, if it goes in 10s I'd try 370F.
Kath says
Please tell me how to make a
Casserole in an air fryer and can I make dumplings in the casserole as well thanks kath
Summer Yule says
Hi Kath! To do a casserole, I'd do the meat and veggies separately in the air fryer, mix it together with a thickened gravy or sauce, and finish heating it all together in the air fryer. I'd also start the biscuits/dumplings separately, to make sure they don't end up mushy on the bottom. (You've given me a great idea for a recipe that I hope I can publish here in the next few weeks, so thank you! UPDATE- Here it is! https://summeryule.com/air-fryer-beef-stew/ )
Thank you for visiting my corner of the web 🙂
Shannon says
I'm using a vortex plus. Used a glass 1C pyrex dish, top shelf. Egg was not cooked. I did notice in the comments (after I tried) that you aren't supposed to preheat. That's extra cooking time and should probably be put in the directions.
Summer Yule says
Hi Shannon, Sorry to hear it didn't work with the Pyrex. I actually don't recommend using Pyrex in the oven or the air fryer because there is a risk of the glass exploding when it's removed. Here's more info if you are interested: https://www.consumerreports.org/consumerist/why-pyrex-bowls-explode/ Please stay safe!
There's no extra cooking time to note because you're not supposed to preheat the air fryer. If you try this recipe in a metal pie tin, I'd love to hear how it goes. Summer 🙂
gralion torile says
I got what you mean ,saved to fav, very nice web site.
Summer Yule says
Thank you, appreciated!
Sam says
Whites were not done and yolk was overcooked. This time and temperature did not work for my air fryer.
Summer Yule says
Hi Sam, I'm sorry to hear this didn't work with your air fryer. Which air fryer brand/size are you using? Did you cook them in mini metal pie tins or something else?
Cherry Dunbar says
Just a question. I didn't see this mentioned. Do you preheat the air fryer before cooking the eggs? TIA 🙂
Summer Yule says
Nope! No preheating needed! Thank you for dropping in 🙂
