⏲ How Long to Cook Air Fryer Soft Boiled Eggs
How long to “boil” air fryer eggs depends on how you like your eggs! Here is a table with the cooking times and temperatures for air fryer boiled eggs:
|Type of Egg
|Air Fryer Time
|Air Fryer Temp
|Air Fryer Soft Boil Egg
|Air Fryer Medium Boil Egg
|Air Fryer Hard Boil Egg
Soft boiled eggs: Soft boiled eggs (AKA half boil eggs) have runny yolks and slightly firm egg whites. They have a delicate and creamy texture that is perfect for dipping toast.
Medium boiled eggs: Medium boiled eggs have firmer yolks that are not fully set. These jammy eggs strike a balance between runny and hard yolks.
Hard boiled eggs: Hard boiled eggs have fully set yolks and whites. They are solid throughout and often used in dishes like deviled eggs, potato salad, and egg salad sandwiches. A green ring around the yolk of hard boil eggs often indicates that they were overcooked.
Regardless of whether you’re making an air fryer soft egg or another type, don’t overcrowd eggs in the air fryer. You need to leave space around the eggs for air circulation and more even cooking. Also, don’t forget to put the eggs in an ice bath immediately after air frying to stop the cooking process.
🥚 How to Use Soft Boiled Eggs Air Fryer
You can enjoy soft boiled eggs on their own, as dippy eggs with toast, or as a topping for salads, rice bowls, or ramen. Here are some foods to serve with your soft boiled egg in air fryer:
🌡️ How to Store Soft Boiled Eggs
According to foodsafety.gov, boiled eggs last up to 1 week in the refrigerator in an airtight container (though they are best freshly made). Don’t peel the eggs until you are ready to eat them. Soft boiled eggs don’t freeze or reheat well, so enjoy them chilled.
What temperature should I set my air fryer for boiled eggs?
I found through air fryer testing that the best temp for air fryer boiled eggs is 270F (132C). Please keep in mind that all air fryers cook differently, so experiment with cooking at 200 degrees, 300 degrees, etc. to find the perfect temperature.
Can you cook soft boiled eggs in the air fryer at 150 degrees?
Maybe. I found 150C (300F) slightly too high to make air fryer soft boiled eggs. However, this temp might work for you since air fryers don’t cook consistently between the different air fryer sizes and brands.
Can you air fry eggs at 400 degrees?
No, I find that 400F (200C) is too high for most air fryer egg recipes. If you want fried eggs in air fryer, 375F (190C) is my recommended air frying temp.
Do you need water to boil an egg in an air fryer?
No, you do not need water to boil an egg in the air fryer. You can cook whole shell eggs in an air fryer without water to get the same results as a boiled egg. That said, it’s nice to have ice water on hand to cool the eggs after air frying.
Is it safe to boil eggs in air fryer?
It's not a good idea to boil eggs with water in an air fryer because it doesn’t work well and takes a long time. Luckily, you can get eggs that look boiled by popping them in an air fryer without the water. Air fryers are better suited for dry cooking methods, such as baking and frying.
