It’s not entirely true that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. However, I do love to start my mornings with a hearty meal! If you are also a breakfast fan, I hope that my breakfast recipes inspire some culinary creativity.
Since I limit recipes with refined grains and added sugar on this website, I don’t post a lot of typical American breakfasts. Sugary cereals, white flour pancakes and waffles, and most pastries are rare here. These items tend to be high-calorie and not very satiating, not great choices if you have a weight loss goal.
My favorite morning options include oatmeal, eggs, fruit, and plain (unsweetened) Greek yogurt. These nutrient-rich whole foods provide protein, fiber, and fluid to keep me going until lunch. I eat some combination of these foods most mornings.
Sometimes, I even combine oatmeal and eggs into one meal, as I did with this vegetable oats recipe. (I know it sounds odd, but please don’t knock it until you try it! I promise it is very, very tasty!)
If you are following a low-carb way of eating, you’ll want to stick with some of the egg recipes. Those who are volume eaters will find a lot of high-volume, low-calorie dishes in this section. Many of these dishes also happen to be vegetarian.
I don’t have time to prepare elaborate meals most mornings. Instead, I prefer to make my breakfast ahead. Here are three of my favorite breakfast recipes on the site, and you can make them the night before:
